Doily and Shuttles

The Online Tatting Class had a special decoupage shuttle class on August 17.  Had some plain shuttles so I joined the fun.  Fabric, paper and stickers were used along with a little glitter modge podge.   The tigger is for my hubby, the blue and red I may bring to next years Tat Days to sell and the other three are for me.

The doily is done in size 30, thread hand dyed by me.  Pattern is called Tatted Pineapple Doily adapted by Kendra Goodnow.  Handy Hands sells the pattern.  I make a doily for someone every year for about 7-8 years now.  This will be mailed or given at next years Tat Days.

“Dissent”

This is Marilee Rockley’s “Dissent” necklace.  My daughter asked me to tat it for her.  She then framed it.  Necklace is a tribute to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, US Supreme Court Judge, who passed away earlier this year.

Beads, beads and more beads!

I needed some beads (specifically delica) for some earrings I wanted to make for a possible craft exhibit.  I had ordered from Fusion Beads before and checked their webside again.  Lo and behold, they had a clearance section.  So, I proceeded to select a bunch of colors for several projects.  Shipping was quick.  The Angel earrings were made with some of the beads.  Love this pattern.  It can be found on the 2019 Palmetto Tat Days CD.  Taught by Bonnie Swank.

The black item is a necklace and earrings for a present.  Needs to be finished with findings.  Pattern from Marlie Rockley's book Tatting with Beads Jewelry.  It is a nice, quick pattern.

The bottom two photos are from Karen Brovard's book Illusions of 3-D in Split Ring Tatting.  It is a challenging pattern.  Thought I was doing ok but I really need to work on tension as illustrated by the arrows.  The green block with the middle arrow was the last section.  It is definately tight.  Soooooo, I decided to restart.  I have made a single ring to use as a marker to compare against rings as they are made.  Seems to be working much better.  Will post a pic with my next post.

It is on hold right now as I am working on presents (althought I sneak a few rings now and then).

Also, Lisa from Tatting Corner has put out a request.  The Lacey Ladies of Arizona is hosting the 2020 IOLI Convention in late July 2020.  They need 300+ bookmarks - all types welcome.  Bookmarks are to be 4 - 6 inches long.  She would like to make this a service project and flood the Lacey Ladies with bookmarks.  For more info/address to send bookmarks to, search Tatting Corner on Facebook or send her a message.

Beaded Lanyards

My DH received a request for a couple of lanyards.  The pattern is from Patti Duff titled Beaded Lanyard.  The pink is Lizbeth Girly Girl.  Beads are a metallic pink and a pink middle with a blue/purple transparent outer covering.  Alternated the beads.  The other is Lizbeth Rainbow Splash.  Beads are metallic gunmetal.

Now working on a few projects to send to Palmetto Tatters.  They are going to be doing a couple of craft shows in April.  Thought I would send somethings as a way to give back for all they do.  Stay tuned for pictures.

TIAS, Quilt Squares and Brussel Squares

TIAS for 2018 is now finished.  She has been swimming her way across the pond and finally made it into Jane's email basket.  It was another wonderful TIAS.  Thread was my own HDT in Cherry Cola with yellow eyes and Lizbeth pink thread.

I did a few of the Brussel Squares.  I did not send them (missed the deadline).  But I loved the pattern.  Worked them up with bits of pink thread I had on shuttles or left over from previous projects.

I have also been busy finishing up on 6 quilt squares for the 2018 Palmetto Tat Days scholarship.  Had fun deciding what to put on the squares.  Patterns were from Jane Eborall, Georgia Seitz, Sherry Pence, Karey Soloman, Wally Sosa, Martha Ess, Coretta De Loughmiller, Mary Konior and my own design.  If I have forgotten anyone, please forgive me.  I just started tatting away without writing down who was what's design.

I have another request for a couple more lanyards.  Halfway done with one.

Palmetto Tatters is doing a couple craft shows in April.  Would also like to tat a few projects for them to sell.

Also, I did submit and approved to teach a class for this years Palmetto Tat Days to be held in September.

Still Here & Projects

I have been very laxed at posting.  Actually, been very busy catching up on things.  With the holidays and a couple of personal things going on, posting did not even cross my mind.  Hopefully, things are starting to simmer down so I can start working on projects put on hold.

I was asked to make some lanyards for a couple of co-workers at DH's work.  This is a pattern by Patti Duff.  Colors are Lizbeth Size 20 in Niagara Falls, Girly Girl and Grape Pomegranate.  I actually did two of the Grape Ponegranate as someone else wanted one.

Working on a cross stitch by The Frosted Pumpkin.  It is a stitch-along with a piece being published each month.  This years theme is Into the Jungle and features baby jungle animals.  Will post when January's is done.  Just have a corner left.

Finished a doily by Alenalea Tatting.  This was a tat-along she did last summer/fall.  Thread was knit crosheen, size 10.  I had picked this up at Goodwill.  Given to my mother for Christmas.

Jane Eborall has started her annual TIAS (tat it and see).  She has posted Day 2 today.

Palmetto Tatters Organization is accepting applications for teachers and logo submissions.  These are due February 21.  I do not think I will be teaching this year.  Have an idea(s), but have other things to be doing.  Will work on them this year and be better prepared for next year.

Quilt squares are due March 20 to the Palmetto Tatters Organization for this years scholarship.  I have several that I need to get on, complete and ship before the deadline.  Information can be found on the above Palmetto link.

There is also a Tat a Brussels Monument in pink tatting project going on.   This is also on the list of tatting projects to complete before the deadline.

Ta-ta for now.

Fish Paperclip

I have volunteered to a project for Georgia Seitz for the Online Tatting Class.  I will be making a piece of tatting for a paperclip each month.  The first one is located on the top right hand side of the index page.  I have ideas for a few months and Georgia has forwarded a list of ideas as well.  If anyone is interested in assisting with this project for future month(s), let me know.  We will coordinate!  Credit will be given.  Happy Tatting.

TIAS and Tatted Squares

Just a reminder, Jane Eborall will be starting this years Tat It and See (TIAS) this Wednesday!

Since Metro Atlanta is pretty much iced in this weekend (and maybe until Tuesday), I have plenty of time to tat.  I saw a snowflake on The Mickey Mouse Club program (Granddaughter likes watching the program) and thought that would be a great tatted pattern.  The snowflake has diamond shapes in it.  I had seen an article before and after a Google search found it.  The author referenced a book by Anne Dyer To Boldly Go Where No Shuttle Has Gone Before.  Just so happens I was able to pick up that book at Tat Days last year.  Here is my first attempt. I am actually making a star (5 points instate of 6).  Pattern is about half done.  This will be submitted for Tat Days later this year.  Nice technique for making odd shapes.  EDIT:  Star did not work.  Back to drawing board to modify it to a snowflake (6 points).

Just goes to show, you never know when inspiration will come from when looking for items to tat.

Still Tatting

Can't believe it has been over a month since I last posted.  My how time is flying.

I am still tatting.  Marilee Rockley's newest book happen to find its way to my house.  The beige piece on the right is the Beatrice necklace.  Will be making the earrings as well.  After this piece, I will work on the Beaded Path necklace and earring set from the same book.  Beads are from Fusion Beads in Seattle Washington.  Thread is Artiste Eggnog from Hobby Lobby.

The Barrett and the other pinky motif are from Tat Days 2016.  Aldebaran Dragonseed Star by Karey Solomon and the 3-D Barrette is by Sherry Pence.  Thread is Lizbeth, HDT by me.

The orange/gold is the Lucky Penny pattern by Carolyn Craig from the Facebook Tatting Groups.  I have 19 made.  My goal is to make approximately 130.  It is for a secret project.  Each one is made with a different color of thread.  It is one way to figure out how many colors I have (and if I need more).

Tat Days - Part 2

Purchased three kits to work on.  The Headlace kit I am going to try and make for Granddaughters B'day in November.  It is from Sherry Pence.  The other two kits are from Nina Libin.  I was not able to take Nina's Interlaced Necklace so I purchased the kit.  The Gold jewelry set was pretty and it found it's way into my hands as well.

The shuttles are from Rita Richmond - Shuttle By Design.  I asked her if it was possible to have a shuttle with the "P" available for pickup at Tat Days.  She was able to accommodate my request.  I tried to be good but she has new acrylic shuttles and the blue one was calling out to me.

The mini shuttles were 3-d printed by Tim Kaylor.  These were in the goodie bags.  They are nice for smaller amounts of thread projects.

The tatted projects are Tat Days test pieces.  The navy/gold and dark pink bracelet strips are from Martha Ess' Starry Bracelet class.  Navy has beads, the dark pink - no beads.  Will finish the navy with bracelet findings for Granddaughter.  The bear was tatted in size 10 (pattern called for size 10, but 10 was all I had on vacation to tat the project).  It is from Martha Ess' Technique Teddy Bear class.  The red/white star is another Martha Ess design.  It is her Broomstick Picot Star.   The navy angel is a design by Kathy Hodge called Guardian Angel.  All the tatted pieces can be found on the Palmetto Tat Days 2016 CD.

The book was a last minute kind of gotta have purchase.  With the arrival of a Grandson this past April, he will need some tatted items as well.  This book has 3-d projects (a train, trees, and several buildings).

Lastly - not Tat Days related - Marilee Rockley aka Yarnplayer has a new book of tatted beaded jewelry coming out in November.  Check her blog for info on presales through Amazon.com.  I have mine on preorder.

Sigh, so many projects, so little time!

Tat Days - Part 1

Slowly unpacking and trying to get organized.  Thought I would post as I unpack so I do not confuse myself.

Top left photo is a picture of the Hands of Many Gestures class that I was to teach.  Thread is size 20, HDT by me in Rust.  Unfortunately, this class was cancelled, put the pattern should be on the Tat Days CD.

Top right are two books I won at the silent auction.  The black book is very interesting and may come in handy while thinking of next year's Tat Days.

Bottom left are pics of finished projects.  Yeah, I actually have finished projects to show.  The Love 2 TAT by Carol Lowe class I picked up in place of the hand class.  Thread is Jelly Bean Lizbeth, size 20.  The barrett is Sherry Pence's 3-D Barrett Flower.  Thread is Lizbeth but do not remember the name.  This will be going to Granddaughter when I see her this week.  The earrings are from my Encased Gem Earring class.    Thread is Lizbeth Navy.

Bottom right are books I picked up.  I see a "Pinky Pie" horse for Granddaughter and lots of little coasters in my future!

Earrings, Baubles and Edging

Numbers 5, 6 and 7 of my motif challenge.  The Earrings are from Tat Days 2015 by Nina Libin.  Had made them for a formal event a couple of weeks ago.  Alas, ended up wearing something different.

Jane Eborall inspired me to practice baubles which I learned at Tat Days 2014 (a class by Randy Houtz).  Granted these are just standard run of the mill baubles, nothing fancy.  But it was good to get out the shuttles and practice.  First to round, second almost to my liking.

I was looking for an edging for a project so I got out Mary Konior's Tatting with Visual Patterns.  The piece is called Chain Reaction.  Isn't quite what I was looking for.  Back to the drawing board.

I have been doing quite a bit of tat testing.  Nothing I can show right now.  I do like to be able to help others when I am able.

Fair Results

Went yesterday on opening day to our local fair.  After going through the barn, we wondered into the craft area to look and see what we did.

I was thinking the lanyard (needlework-misc) and red/white star (Christmas- ornament) would win also.  It just was not meant to be this year.

There were three entries in the tatting category.  My husband received a third for a tatted owl.  Some one else received the first for a white doily.  My brown doily was the second.

The purple necklace was entered in the jewelry category.

Overall, I am pleased.  Now to plan for next year.

Inspiration

Look what arrived in my mail yesterday.  Edda Guastalla sells them
http://www.guastallascarpe.com/bs/categoria-prodotto/filati/

The book is in Italian.  Google translate and I became friends yesterday afternoon.  The diagrams are great and the pictures fantastic.

I look through this with my almost 3 year old grand daughter.  As she pointed to the alphabets, I was looking at the kitties.  So before nap time, she picked some thread and beads.  The kitty was complete just as she awoke from her nap.

This magazine will bring me lots of tatting moments as I can see myself practically tatting everything in it.

This now completes my second 25 motif challenge.  I will start a new one but it will probably be in January as I really need to complete other projects first.

2015 Fair Entries

Here is this years fair entries:

1) Coffee/brown Grab 'n Go tote bag (pattern by In Color modified to have pockets on the inside)

2) Mock Cluny star with beads (Karey Solomon's pattern from this years Tat Days)

3) A decoupage shuttle using glitter Modge Podge and Olaf stickers

4) A purple beaded necklace (hand dyed thread by me - see previous post on this one)

5 & 6) A purple beaded lanyard - Patti Duff pattern - and a brown doily.  The doily is from the book Tatting with Friends which I won at this years Tat Days auction.  The thread is Perle cotton which was given to me at one of my classes by A.J. (thank you so much).  These two items will have new homes after the fair (more on this with another post later).

With the lanyard and doily, that makes 23 and 24 of my 25 motif challenge.

Tat Days 2015 Pics

The first pic (upper left) is the Trillium Flower from Linda's (aka StringyDogs - nice to see a face with a name) class.  It is inverted tatting.  Actually was able to finish the project in class!  It now has a new home at my mother's.

The next one is from the auction Friday night.  the DVD's is my husbands and the Tatting With Friends is mine.  Already working on a doily from the book for a fellow tatter.

The bottom left are pictures of projects from the three classes I taught.  The bug is from The Complete Book of Tatting from Rebecca Jones (used with permission).  The other two are my own design.  The bug class had fun after completing as they enjoyed playing with them.

The last picture are four projects from Karey Solomon's class.  I able to test these for her.  Pendant Necklace (teal), Mock Cluny Star (red and white), Leaping Lambies and Heavenly Tails and Happy Endings are the bookmarks.

The picture on the left is my husbands raffle prize.

I enjoyed this years Tat Days as I have learned two more techniques to my list (cluny tatting and inverted tatting).  I look forward to next years as I am already thinking of class submittal and the enjoyment of catching up with my fellow tatters.

This now makes 17 through 22 of my 25 motif challenge for 2015.

Grab 'N Go Bags, Necklace, Doily

Finished my first two grab 'n go bags.  The large one has 10 small pockets and the smaller one has 6.  They are drawstring.  The larger one is big enough to put the Monster doily in with room to spare.

The necklace is hdt by me with sparkle beads.  Pattern is called Collana by silfoxestating (FB post Aug/Dec 2014).  Made for my brothers wedding in November.  Now to get the dress made.

The blue doily is something quick that I made to enter in the fair.  Pattern can be found in Tatted Fashion by Teiko Fujito.

The necklace and doily make number 15 and 16 of the 25 motif challenge.

Two weeks before Tat Days.  Wire legs need to be cut for the Tatting Bug class I am teaching.  Need to finish more bags to take with me for vending.  Shuttles need to be wound for the classes I am taking as well as gathering my tatting accessories.  Tags need to be made for the bags and shuttles my husband will be selling.  All this plus watching granddaughter a few days and taking mother to doctor/car dealer for vehicle recall work.  Time flies when having fun!

Hearts, Dragonfly and Bear

With these three items, I have now finished my second 25 motif challenge.  I will begin a new one later this month.

My mom was recently in the hospital with rapid heart rate/chest pains/shortness of breath (third time since January 23).  They believe there was an electrical short so a procedure was done on Wednesday.  As I went home from the hospital Tuesday, I was thinking of something that I could bring the next day as I knew I would be sitting around.  I thought a small tatted heart would be appropriate.  Nothing complicated.  I had seen one earlier in "The Bulletin" published by the International Organization of Lace.  I had it in my tatting corner, Volume 35, Number I, Fall 2014.  It is a Heart pattern my Karey Solomon.  Gathered my thread and magazine, threw it in my Tat Days bag and I was ready to go.  By the time we saw the cardiologist, one heart was done and given to the assistant.  The others were made throughout the day and will be kept in my giveaway box.   Thread is pink, brand unknown.

Next is a little dragonfly by Jon Yusoff.  Wanted something different to keep in my giveaway box.  I am always looking for small items.  Needed a little evening break from Monster Doily.  Thread is a blue-green hand dyed by me.  Brand unknown.

Gave away one of my Kudzu bears last week, so I made a replacement.  Details can be found on one of my other posts.

Shuttle Tag

My granddaughter found the tatted shuttle tag I made myself last week.  She was very intrigued with it.  So I asked her if she wanted one.  Of course she said yes.  I then took her up and had her pick out the thread.  Now you need to know she is only 2.  I was happy to put things aside and make her one.  She saw the partial (all beads were one it) on Wednesday, picked it up admiring the beads and walked away.  I did receive it back and thought I better finish before I see here again.  She will receive it this afternoon.  The thread is size 20 Lisbeth in Spring Flower.  Pattern can be found here: http://www.itsabear.com/kathy/Pattern/shuttletag.html

Christmas 2014

Presents given and received.  The first is called Unfolding Heart by Marilee Rockley - given to my daughter.  Silver beads were added for a little bling.  The second is Ars Colaris "My Wonderful Tree".  It was in the process of being stiffened.  The recipient (a family friend) will have to attached the pieces into a star.  The last are shuttles my wonderful husband made for me out of exotic wood he found at a local woodworking shop.  They need a finish and then I will put them to work.

Going to make a couple of quick smiley faces tonight.

Tomorrow will start the design process of a chocker/bracelet.  Palmetto Tatters Guild is now accepting applications for teachers.  Tat Days is September 3-6, 2015.  Deadline for applications is February 15, 2015.
